The odd thing about this story is that it’s true. In 1952, Argentina beloved mother, Eva Perón, died of cancer at the age of thirty-three. A famous embalmer grieving commissioned by Juan Perón to preserve his body for display, and Argentina flocked to be near “Evita.” Three years later, when the government was toppled by a military coup, Perón left the country before he could make arrangements to transport the body of his wife. The military junta now in control abducted a corpse; so afraid are they of Eva symbolic power they even make it illegal to utter his name. Thus began a journey two decades Eva bodies across Europe and finally back to Argentina.
